Odontomyia sp
This attractive fly (about 12 mm long) had the largest eyes I've ever seen ! The thorax was a brilliant shimmering green. The dorso-ventrally flattened abdomen was a pale green with dark markings along the midline. Wings were clear, narrow and crossed over in the midline.
Spotted resting on a eucalyptus leaf - in a nature reserve.
These flies feed on nectar whilst their larvae feed on algae and decaying organic matter. Family: Stratiomyidae
