about 7 carcasses in different stages of decomposition that were exposed.

Whoa! What an interesting find you stumbled upon! Were there 3 different carcasses? The remains appear to be out in the open, so you must be right about them being used as an attractant. Otherwise, you may have stumbled across some thing's dinning room! ;)
