Mergus merganser
Large (55-65 cm in length) light grey bird with a characteristic long, narrow, dented red bill ending in a small hook. Chest and belly white to whitish, with orange legs. Female (Pic N°2 and 3) is greyish, with a rusty colored head, looking more voluminous because of the crest. Male (pic N° 1 and 4), develops black head and back.
Seen on lake Geneva (lac Leman) this winter, in a rather large mixed waterfowl flock. The flock often gathers and can be seen near the Rousseau island, in urban setting.
