Description:

Mahogany colored beetle, about 26 mm long.

Habitat:

The larvae pass the first 3-4 years of their lives underground, eating plant roots, after which they finally hatch in spring. Adults feed on leaves. Used to be very common in Europe, but is getting rare nowadays.

I propose we ask the entomological world to change the common name. Poor thing! What a name for such a lovely creature!
