Northern Goshawk

Accipter gentilis

Description:

A fairly large hawk with brown feathers ranging from head to tail and a puffy white underbelly with spots. It was most likely in its junvenile stage since its adult stage have a "slate blue-gray to nearly black" top half running from its head to its tail with a gray underbelly.

Habitat:

Prefers woodland areas such as decidous forests and dense conifers

Notes:

This was one of the few times I have seen a hawk. The picture was taken in a Costco parking lot where it was perched on a tree near a McDonalds. I found it puzzling because there were no forests nearby that I could see. I can only conclude that it had adapted to its current environment or it was merely searching for food next to a McDonalds. saw many birds around parking lots, flying overhead, searching for food. On the other hand, it may have also been resting.
