Psednura pedestris
A very flat, seed-mimic grasshopper about 35mm long. Very alert and wouldn't allow me to approach closer than a couple of metres. Very hard to see in seedy grasses.
In grasses in a large state forest.
Also called 'Common psednura' but there doesn't seem to be many recent shots of it.
Here is a green species from NSW... http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/212...
order: ORTHOPTERA
suborder: CAELIFERA
superfamily: ACRIDOIDEA
family: PYRGOMORPHIDAE
subfamily: Pyrgomorphinae
tribe: Psednurini

Thanks Cindy. Sorry it can't join your hopper collection. :-)
Great eye and spotting!
Thanks arlanda and Leuba. What you do is be really clumsy in the grass and something moves. :-)
How could you see it? Great spotting, Mark!
However did you spot this ? and then to get an ID...good work !
