Verbascum sp.
This is a young Verbascum plant, characterized by leaves that are usually hairy and give it a soft feel and appearance. After the first year, the mullein's initial rosette grows into a tall stem.
Desert alpine terrain with volcanic rock beds for miles around, altitude ~6000 ft.
The flowers are commonly yellow, but can also be orange, red, purple, blue or white. This plant also produces fruiting bodies that contain many seeds.
