Red Shouldered Hawk

Red Shouldered Hawk- a subadult (Immature) Buteo Lineatus

Description:

Large Bird, the beak looked yellow.

Habitat:

On fence in a neighbor's yard, this yard has a huge (trash tree) Sweet Gum Tree, in a subdivision Metairie is about 10 miles out of New Orleans, Louiaiana.

Notes:

I call it a "Chicken Hawk". This hawk has a partner I missed the picture on that, not sure if this picture is the male or female. The other hawk seemed bigger.

I agree with Red-shouldered - a subadult.

I would say with much certainty it is a sub adult red shouldered hawk . Spent much time with them here in Southern Florida.

I am familiar with Cooper's Hawks, but I do not believe they have the barred wings and the red-tail is a chunkier bird.

Thanks Chesterbperry,
Neighbor called this bird a Cooper Hawk. Have you heard of that species before?
