Amphibolips sp.
Large marble sized wasp gall. Slightly bumpy outer surface. Small cell in the center of the gall surrounded by a spongy looking material. Either Amphibolips confluenta or quercusspongifica.
Temperate forest. Rockwood Park, Virginia.
Thank you PucaK. It looks like it is one of two that seem to be difficult to distinguish. A. confluenta or quercusspongifica. I can at least ID this to genus now. :-) http://bugguide.net/node/view/356645
