Shiny Filmy Fern

Hymenophyllum flabellatum

Description:

A weepy epiphytic fern growing in dense curtains on a tree fern. The pinnae were filmy thin, frilly and thickening at the tips. Rachis - black and wiry like that of the common maidenhair fern.

Habitat:

damp forests with eucalypts and tree ferns

Notes:

These are extremely attractive in the filtered light, making patches of beautiful bright green in dark damp spots. Most of the tree ferns were covered with soft curtains of these ferns.
