Eastern Fox Squirrel

Sciurus niger

Description:

The fox squirrel has three distinct color phases; in the north and east it is gray with yellowish undersided. They are the largerst species of tree squirrels.

Habitat:

Open woodlands with nut producing trees.

Notes:

A pair of fox squirrels have found our bird feeder. They were trying to keep the gray squirrels from coming over and feeding on the seed.
