A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Carya illinoinensis
A pecan tree in my yard, is also host to a nest of cardinals. They weren't there. Pecans are a type of deciduous hickory tree and just barely scrape into Kansas from the southeast in their range. Also, you can eat them when they're ripe, so that's cool.
These trees are found in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri in high numbers and sparsely in Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kansas, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Can also be found in parts of Mexico.
