Formicidae
Although smaller than a Bull Joe ant I remember this one as about 15mm. It is sturdy. Black with a gold abdomen and red legs. It has a large head. It moves quickly and steadily rather than in bursts. There was only one in sight and it is the only time I have seen it
Heavily disturbed, sparsely forested, dry ridge. It was moving up the trunk of a gum tree.
