Eastern Water Dragon

Description:

Grey shades in colouring with muted colours of rust brown and yellow which intensify during breeding season. Adults grow quite large particularly males, some to near 1 metre nose to tail tip. A series of small and large spikes grow along the spine and parts of the cheek of the water dragons, becoming more prominent as they age. Feeds on insects, scraps, vegetation, flowers. Very territorial. Will climb trees especially near watercourses (the main habitat) where a quick escape is afforded by jumping into the water.

Habitat:

Watercourses, banks of streams, rivers, wet areas, enjoys sunbaking on grassy areas especially gardens. Eastern areas of Australia.
