Wooly Alder Aphid

Prociphilus tessellatus

Description:

Clusters of insects on the bark and small branches of a tree. Blackish or gray in coloration but they secrete wax which forms a more fuzzy look. These were being attended to by carpenter ants.

Habitat:

Bayard Cutting Arboretum. Cultivated area next to brackish water.
