I also found it fascinating that it is bedazzled with clear bead-like growths. I initially thought it might be Entoloma abortivum, but that only seems to grow on dead or dying matter.
That is rather... ummm.... grossly fascinating. Like putrid cottage cheese growing on a tree trunk.
