Viola sp.
Violets have flowers with five petals - four that are upswept or fan-shaped (two per side), and one petal that is a broad, lower petal, which points downward. Leaves are heart-shaped and scalloped.
Spotted growing along a nature trail and in the edges of the woods in a mixed forest.
