Bronze Banana

Musa ornata

Description:

Definitely of the Musa family...an ornamental banana plant. The interesting thing was that the banana flower grew vertically at the terminal end (usually it faces down) and then there were bananas for Liliputs too!(middle picture) \Wikipedia says , "The true M. ornata is found in India and is a small species. From its home in India it reached Central and South America early in the 19th century where it became naturalized."

Habitat:

In a garden ...the garden is actually a sort of overgrown wilderness; a biodiversity haven and part of the land around the house of an avian expert, now in his nineties. We had to promise to keep on the bricked part only as there were ground nesting birds and snakes in the areas running wild. This area is called Shyamkhola and is a popular birding spot.

Notes:

Synonym: Musa mexicana
