Gulf Toadfish

Opsanus beta

Description:

Brown mottled color all over, they rely on camouflage to not be preyed upon. They have fleshy flaps on the side of the flattened head, and the eyes are positioned on the top.

Habitat:

Found in the Gulf of Mexico from Florida to Texas.

Notes:

This guy was seined up with nets, then put in a tray of water so we could look at him better. He was only out of the water for a few seconds for pictures, then was returned to the Gulf of Mexico safely.
