A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
These spiders build orb shaped webs, hence their name. They are about 7 cm tall. This is obviously a female as it is so large, the males are usually tiny little things that hover around the edges hoping to get a shot. However, unlike some other species of spiders the female does not do the courtesy of eating the male after she is done with him (the Black Widow comes to mind). Their webs are so large so that it is easier for prey to visit.
Secondary rainforest. This one's web was across the path.
