Leopardus tigrinus pardinoides
This is a small Felidae from Center and South America. The pictures belong to an Amazon Tigrillo, from the locality of Tena (low Amazon basin). It is, according to The red book of the mammals of Ecuador, one of the rarest mammals in Central and South America.
Temperate and Tropical rainforest. It has been reported at the beginning of the last century in the high paramos of Mojanda, but their true distribution is still unknown.
Relocated for wrong id.
I found a very informative page about the specie at http://www.wildcatsmagazine.nl/tigercat.... ; and definitively, based on the distribution must be Leopardus tigrinus pardinoides (Gray, 1867).
I don't know how it happened, but somehow the locality was wrong (probably my own mistake). It belongs to the Tena zone in Ecuador.
Nice shot. The scientific name you are using is not correct though. It is L. tigrinus not L. tigrilus. As you took this in Colombia it is most likely L.tigrinus pardinoides.
Wow beautiful breathtaking cat :) Great spotting! Oh I'd love to have one like this :)
