Polypores

Piptoporus betulinus

Description:

This mushroom was found on the bark of a tree. It had the length of about 6 centimeters and a width of about 10 centimeters. At the top of the mushroom, as seen in the picture, was very brown and had very flat surface. The texture was very rough and had some holes. The bottom, which is only partly shown, is white. At the bottom of this mushroom we found handsome fungus beetles. We found that at the bottom there were more pores and holes which might be one of the reasons why the handsome fungus beetle chose to stick onto the bottom: because there was a more firmer grip. Unlike some mushrooms, this mushroom was very flat and did not have a hill like curve.

Habitat:

The mushroom was found on the bark of a tree. As you can see, it is not necessarily located in a dark area of the Singapore American School rainforest. It gets significant amount of sunlight. The habitat around this mushroom has a lot of other mushrooms. The other picture is an example. It looks like the same species expect for its color.
