Sceloporus occidentalis bocourtii
I like this pic because it shows the scales off so well.
Hi Hemma. The ID suggestion is actually a subspecies of the western fence lizard, Sceloporus occidentalis. The website I use does not have an entry for the greater species per se, but instead lists all the subspecies of it that occur in California. Your spotting is near the boundary of another subspecies Sceloporus occidentalis occidentalis or the northwestern fence lizard and as these maps are general this is certainly overlap. I did however see one of the photos of Sceloporus occidentalis bocourtii that resembled yours so I suggested it as your spotting was within its range :-)
Hemma you win the nobel prize for most supporting friend, along time ago :-)
I learned with you :-)
Frasier, thank you for the Id. It is amazing that you could Id this one so quick.

It is only on this rock that I spot this. This is my front door neighbors home.
In my yard I spot Western Fence lizards. very puzzling since the dist bet the two is only 50ft.
It was sitting on a rock in the vicinity of the foothills. The rock is laden with moss/lichen/fungi,you name it.
Great shot! What's the habitat? The texture of the lizard matches the substrate.
