Verbascum thapsus
A tall plant, 5' or more, with densely woolly leaves and a spire of yellow flowers, opening a few at a time..The woolly leaves may be nearly an eigth of an inch thick.
High desert country along the road and dry creek beds. They like lots of space and light.
This is great camping toilet paper, as it is soft and shouldn't give you any "skin problems".. I was amazed to discover mullein is a introduced species from Europe, probably arriving in the West with our pioneering ancestors since it has quite a few medicinal uses.
