Lilium candidum
An impressive large flower (10-12 cm in diameter) flowering on a leafy stem, with a wonderful strong smell. The flower has religious connotations and symbolizes purity in Christian tradition. In Israel it grows mainly in the Carmel mountains and further north on the banks of Kziv river. As this lily fares best in forest clearings and shrubland, conservation efforts include clearing small areas of forest to allow for new plants to thrive.
