Green Banana Cockroach

Panchlora nivea

Description:

Cockroaches aren't always everyone's favorite insect, however this one is especially beautiful: light green with a white lateral stripe and elongated silver eyes. The upper surface is semi-transparent with a marbled coloring in green. In nature (far away from our kitchens) cockroaches have an essential role as scavengers. This is the only species of green cockroach. Most pictures of this species have dark red or brown eyes while this one has silver eyes. The nymphs are brown and burrow in the ground. It is also called the Cuban Cockroach and is an invasive species from the Caribbean. Family Blattidae.

Habitat:

Forest, sitting on a broad leaf, Chorreadero Park, Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, Mexico.
