Ringtail possum

Pseudocheirus peregrinus

Description:

This possum came to my front door for a brief visit. Quite small and curious it is probably a youngster. Their prehensile tail distinguishes them from our other common brushtail possum

Habitat:

Suburban yards running along electrical wires and probably looking for leftovers in the dogs food bowl.

Notes:

Possums along with all native terrestrial mammals are marsupials, giving birth to very small young and suckling them inside an abdominal pouch. These possums were seen earlier on the other end of the same cable. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/145...

Thanks Kerry, they sure are cute.
Neil, I think its either one or the other as they are very territorial and unlikely to share anything with similar species. I see mostly ring tails.

Great photos, Martin. I've been waiting to see a ringtail at my place for ages. All I seem to see these days are huge brushtails. Well spotted, and good info.
