Description:

The savanna hawk, measures about 55 cm long, weighs 845 g and has rufous plumage. The adult is all over reddish brown, with black tip of the wings and tail and long feathers. It has a white band in its narrow tail. Yellow legs and bare skin of the nostrils, black beak and reddish brown eyes. Like other hawks, the young man is very different,with faded colors, gray-brown back and belly cream, with dark vertical stripes and a dark semi-collar. On the eyes, a light stripe. Habitat:

Savanna Hawk frequents wooded and palm savannahs and swamps’ edges in tropical and subtropical regions. It is also found at forest edges and in mangroves. It is often near water. This species is visible up to 1000 metres of elevation in Colombia. It prefers open country where it is often observed.
It is mainly resident in most part of its range, from Panama, the Guyana and Trinidad, to Colombia, Bolivia, Uruguay, Central Argentina and Brazil.
