Description:

I believe this is in the genus Bulbine, these were about 20-30 cm tall. The very slender leaves of this species make the clump look nearly grass-like from afar.

I think you are correct Alice, it does look like a bulbine species. It was mislabeled as an aloe which threw me off at first.

Have you looked up the plant Bulbine? They might be related.
