How very interesting! My grandfather was the owner: Neff Christy. He had a wooden leg from a wagon accident when he was a boy. It was always called the Christy Ranch. 1400 acres were on the left side of Marsh Creek Road and 40 acres (where the houses were/are) was on the right side. He died in 1964 or close and my Dad had to eventually sell the whole ranch because of the inheritance taxes. How neat that there is a Clayton Historical Society. Clayton Elementary school was on the hill just above the town. I never saw a Mountain Lion when I was growing up.
So I've been checking on Google Maps. Our ranch was 1440 acres and started at the junction of Marsh Creek Road and Morgan Territory Road. Staying on Marsh Creek, our house (and my grandparents) was what looks like the second right after the junction. I can see our roof! The ranch seems to be intact, and a friend of mine told me that it is now a reserve or a park or something. I hope so. We have hiked from there to the top of Mt. Diablo and back several times. What nostalgia! I went to Clayton Elementary and Clayton Valley High School. Did you grow up there too?
The old Marsh Creek Springs Park was always there even when I was a little girl. It is several km past our ranch (towards Brentwood). In fact, Marsh Creek Springs was where our School bus turned around and returned back down Marsh Creek. After that park, the ranch kids belonged to a different school district.
Thanks Hema, I sure wish I could see Clayton again. Our ranch on Marsh Creek Road is now a park, wish I could see that too! It was the Christy Ranch, but I don't know what the park is called now.
