Jack-in-the-Pulpit fruit

Arisaema triphyllum

Description:

The fruits ripen in late summer and fall, turning bright red before the plants go dormant for winter. Each berry produces 1-5 seeds If the seeds are freed from the berry, they will germinate the next spring.

Habitat:

I spotted this plant along a well-used walking trail in a deciduous forest in a very swampy area.
