Description:

A small prairie plant which has all but vanished from the Iowa landscape. A spring bloomer, this plant is host to the uncommon butterfly, Regal Fritillary. Leaves of this species are very small and probably don't feed many butterflies.

Habitat:

Disturbed prairie near a woodland.
