Hi Jemma. These birds are migratory. They mostly winter in Mexico. There are a few populations that stay put year round in Mexico, but the ones seen in California are almost all migratory. It is a real joy to know and see such shy birds. Thanks again for sharing your spotting.

A great capture Jemma! Thanks for sharing it. :) Orioles are sometimes very tricky to identify.

If you look at the link photos I think you cannot always see a big black bib. One of the key identifying characteristics is the white median coverts and that the black on the face includes the eye.

bee jacobs,this bird does not have a black bib like the "Hooded Oriole " does.
