Black; slightly coarse, leathery texture; somewhat compressible, immediately rebounded to original shape when compressive force removed; slightly flexible to completely rigid. Not brittle or notably fragile.
Suburban neighborhood on tropical upland plateau.
Spotted in my back yard. Three different shapes noted: (1) narrow stalk, ~2 mm diameter at base, inflated at top, evocative of spoon or deflated balloon; (2) blade, 10-15 mm wide, 15-20 mm tall, evocative of lima bean; and (3) non-descript, shriveled blob, 10-20mm wide, 15-25mm tall. Appeared in five places in a generally linear array 2.5 m long. Each occurrence is documented by one of the uploaded photos. This genus does not seem well-described in Hawaii.

Fascinating stuff. You're right - not much written about them at all. I suppose Hawaii (main island) has a lot of imported material these days.
