Oak Tree

Quercus sp.

Description:

Our most common species of Oak Tree in the Pine-Oak forests above San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters. These oaks stand both the heavy rainy season and the 3-4 months of the dry season. The ground is now heavily littered with dry oak leaves, while new shoots are just starting. Oaks are heavily infested with lichens, moss, bromeliads, orchids and a vast array of galls (3rd picture).
