Red breasted Merganser

Mergus serrator

Description:

A large diving duck with a long thin bill, the Red-breasted Merganser is found in large lakes, rivers and the ocean. It prefers salt water more than the other two species of merganser.

Habitat:

in the bay during migration

Notes:

All the other birders were looking for long-tailed duck that had been sighted. I found this and was well satisfied with my day
