Weaver Ants

Oecophylla smaragdina

Description:

This is my first spotting in my 5 days Madai Trip after leaving Tawau (hometown). These large red ants (Oecophylla smaragdina) are carrying a dead common millipede (Trigoniulus corallinus) up a tree. This species of ants are called the Weaver Ants because they weave leaves together to build their ant nest.

Habitat:

Scavenge around St Peter Catholic Church in Kampung Kadazan, Kunak, Sabah. Their nest is on top of this tree which is the same species as http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/226...

Notes:

>>>Map accuracy : 10km diameter.
