Prairie Merlin

Falco columbarius richardsoni

Description:

I spotted this bird of prey along the banks of the Bow RIver yesterday. Not sure if it was a juvenile but it was very small, looked no bigger than a pigeon. I'm thinking it's an American Kestrel, any other suggestions?

Thanks Christy I think you're right about it being a Merlin! :)

Beautiful bird! I'm leaning more towards a Merlin...I'd like someone else's opinion, though. I'd love this spotting and any others that apply in the mission Raptors of North America: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8627...
