Red-tailed Hawk

Buteo jamaicensis

Description:

A Red-tailed Hawk soars above the cliffs near the Pt. Vicente Lighthouse at the tip of the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Southern California, on May 13, 2013. The long-time resident Red-tail male and female introduced 3 hatchlings to the world about 2 weeks ago, attracting photographers and birdwatchers to the Pt. Vicente Lighthouse trail, which is prized as a perfect vantage point from where viewers can see above and down into the birds' nest. (Photo by Sarah Corrice.)

Habitat:

"Throughout most of North America, from western Alaska and northern Canada to as far south as Panama and the West Indies, and is one of the most common buteos in North America." -Wikipedia

Notes:

This set of photos depicts the same couple of Red-tails that are on my profile. The fledglings are their babies.
