A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Elaeis guineensis
The plant has a thick bottom that immediately starts to branch out. The branches are white/grey in color and extend a bit before the leaves start to come out. Some of the leaves are light green, and some are darker. The leaves are not very wide but are long. Each one has a clear pointed drip tip. As the branches reach the top, they start to open outwards like a flower. There are also lots of dead leaves and branches hanging off the tree. The branches also have spine like objects sticking out on the sides.
The tree was in a wide open area with little competition for light. The top of the tree was all exposed to the sun. The surrounding floor had less leaf litter and also less small plants growing. There were a few other trees growing in the vicinity, and they were blocking out some of the light.

Really nice pictures! The close-ups really let you see the fine details of the branches.
