Description:

Lobed oak leaf with needles at the ends of the lobes, more prominent when the leaf is young. Young leaves reddish. Very large leaves, more fragile than leathery, not shiny but a matt light green. Not the Oregon Oak, but I don't know the species. It might be a planting of an oak from farther away (it was in a yard).

Habitat:

Willamette Valley oak savanna/prairie, among Oregon Oak, ash, etc.

Notes:

The leaves differ dramatically from the young ones put out by the suckers at the bottom of the tree, and the older leaves from higher up in the tree; they looked like different species until checking the trunks.
