Dysonia holgeri
An incredible katydid of about 5 cm long that when sitting on lichens was almost impossible to see. The underside is black as well as spotting and phalanges on the legs which blend with the dark shadows. The length of the body is actually small compared to the length of the wings (see the last picture). The eyes are divided in half, with the upper side the color of lichen and the underside black (picture 4). Family Tettigoniidae.
Real del Monte, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters. Oak and Pine forest.
