Description:

Darters (Snake birds) are mistaken for large cormorants. Males are black with a white face and females have white dorsal surfaces. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/194... This resident male was seen fishing a few weeks ago. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/195...

There is a large breeding population at Lillydale lake where I shot the female. In fact they seem to be nearly all females but I'm learning now that some are non breeding males which look similar. I've only ever seen this male at Ringwood lake, which is a much smaller lake. There's lots of pacific ducks here, mallards, maned ducks, coots, swamphens http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/198... and a heron here too http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/195...
