Crotalus horridus
Three black phase Timber Rattlesnakes basking on a rock ledge on the south side of Sullivan Mountain, Loyalsock State Forest.
A rocky ledge on the summit of Sullivan Mountain, elevation 2130'.
I spotted these snakes while hiking on the Old Loggers Path, this area is most likely about to be opened to natural gas drillers with at least 7 well pads proposed for this mountain along with accompanying gas lines, new roads and maybe a compressor station. There are actually three snakes in the picture two are quite clearly visible but a third is laying directly underneath the lower snakes, a few of its coils and its rattle are all that is visible.
