Nurse Shark

Ginglymostoma cirratum

Description:

Spotted resting on the sandy bottom in between heads of coral reef. Nurse sharks can reach a length of 4.3 m (14 ft) and a weight of 330 kg (730 lb). The caudal fin is more than ¼ of the total animal length.

Habitat:

A nocturnal animal that rests on sandy bottoms or in caves or crevices in rock in shallow waters during the day. Common in the Atlantic and in the eastern Pacific, in coastal tropical and sub-tropical waters.

Notes:

My first shark encounter in the wild! Spotted during snorkeling in the Caribbean... very beautiful animal.
