Elm Sawfly

Cimbex americana

Description:

A large non-stinging wasp with clubbed antennae.

Habitat:

These sawflies are mostly found in woodlands. This one was flying around the low vegetation in the open area of a power line cut. When it landed, I took a few pictures.

Notes:

The Elm Sawfly is the largest sawfly in North America and the larva feed on a variety of hardwood leaves, including elm, maple, birch and willow.
