Northern Water Snake.

Description:

As an adult, this snake is chunky and heavy in proportion to it's length. Color is variable from brown to tan to gray to black. Some individuals ampere to be balck while others have dark gray stripes which are difficult to see. These colors darken with age.

Habitat:

Lakes, rivers, streams and ponds as well as the wet areas surroundinjg the water.

Notes:

This snake resembles and share range as well as habitat with Cottonmouth which is a venomous snake. Such this sis the case a snake with this coloration should not be handled.
