Sylvilagus audubonii
Most common rabbits in California are the Black-tailed Jackrabbit, Western Brush rabbit and the Desert Cottontail. Jackrabbits (or Hare) are long legged and large. Western Brush are in the Cottontail family but are smaller and underside of tail is grey. The Desert Cottontail underside of tail is white and the tips of the ears are dark. Desert Cottontails are not always found in the desert. They are brown in color and light colored underneath.
