Lesser Whistling Duck

Dendrocygna javanica

Description:

Gregarious migratory ducks.

Habitat:

Aquatic. These come annually to a freshwater called Santragachi Jheel or Lake near Kolkata, India. The entire perimeter is encroached upon by residents of the locality but the jheel is also fenced off. While this provides a modicum of privacy for the breeding and nesting birds, photographers who use small aim and shoot cameras (like me) are at a distinct disadvantage.
