Description:

This beetle was intently occupied with it's head bent in the sand. Was it eating something or trying to bury it's eggs in sand?If you look carefully,you can see a pink mass under the head.

This is a Tenebrionid (Darkling Beetle). These often stand with the tail end up to emit a foul smelling substance as a defense mechanism. There are also desert species that will stand like that to collect dew on the body surface in the early mornings. They then let the water run down their body into their mouth. I don't think they bury eggs in the sand, but am not sure about that.
